Gateway to the Southern Downs
First established in 1913, Maryvale State School is a co-educational P-6 school located in Queensland's Southern Downs region, 125 km east of Brisbane on the Cunningham Highway, the main route from Brisbane to Warwick.
The Via Recta line was proposed to run a direct link from Brisbane to the Border allowing Queensland to maximize it’s potential for hauling goods traffic in competition to NSW.
Although construction of the line was approved and commenced, the final link between Maryvale and Mt Edwards was never completed.
The Warwick Argus reported on the 14 May 1912 that a start had been made on the Maryvale township as Mr Matt Keefe had commenced work on his two-story hotel.
